Yesterday I met a collegue in the elevator , and whilst both of us were rushing to catch the evening shuttle, he exclaimed “ I missed it , already !”

To which I quoted ” If you think you have, you have..”

For a moment he stared at me, for although we happen to sit on the same floor, I have hardly had any interaction with him.And he wasn’t expecting to be overheard as he made this “decalration to self”. To wind things up, I just closed it with ,”Have you read The Secret “, I will tell you about it tomorrow”

This morning I sighted him at the coffee corner.Excited that I was, I asked him, if he could catch the shuttle yesterday. He did !

So here’s all that I wanted to tell him and you ..

The Secret finishes with the Law of attraction and the power of the principle of reinforcement.i.e your thoughts become things, for everything happens to you twice ,once in your mind, and once when you Do it .

The book closes with the reinforcement of the belief that you get all that you truly DESIRE. So if you are not getting all that YOU want, give it a second thought, are you being skeptical that “will I get it?”, or do you simply BELIEVE. Believe that somehow everything will fall in place and you will be OK.

After I read the book, open as I am to trying out new things , I convinced myself to replace every negative and self-doubting thought by a positive affirmative thought , I will get it .

Because “Thoughts become Things ..”

To substantiate :

As you work out in the gym with the thoughts of a positive, toned , heathier you, you no longer bother about the muscles and ligaments that hurt ,for your mind has tutored your body, to be patient, and to persist, because YOU want to be fit, build your stamina. These muscles which used to cry out claiming you were rude, persist and support you. This is the power of mind.

I belive why you get what you think, is because you make your mind stronger enough for this desire to turn true, and you subconsciously take actions to commensurate it. So take that firm belief, see yourself as holding that object that you desire, palce that you wanted to go to, or the education and information base you wanted to build and you will ACT. And more so, you will enjoy it, because it no longer looks ACTION to you, it looks something that enables you to reach there faster .

This morning I read Becky’s wonderful post on “Reinventing the self.. If you must make that one change today, work out on your thoughts, for they morph into reality .

And don’t wait for that pink slip to do what you have always wanted to, do it right way, if you should.

Like everything else, it is not easy, and you will run , want to wander, just put , and you will be fine eventually, ROME wasn’t built in a day .

To begin, create it in your mind, and STICK on !

Here is a related awesome post that you will LOVE : Running to finish..

Ask, believe and you will receive..

I was just reading  Becky’s  post on Finishing alone.

At the prime, it sends out the message loud and clear, “Don’t play to win, instead to finish..”

Human brain is remarkable in that way,for it can recall the precise moment something relevant happened, and it triggers you back like it was a time machine.

I just remembered a race in school where a close friend had participated. It was a big ground, and we had to take 10 turns and after 6 rounds my friend lost her breath, then.. A teacher walked up to the middle of the field, and ran along with her(actually they walked the rest 4 rounds together), and my friend was given a special price. Back then, I was a little jealous, as kids of our age are! But now, I know that it is important to finish what you start, or you had never started in the first place..

Reading through, I went to introspect my feelings, and what was I up to lately.

I think we don’t get what we want, because each of these days, we quit in our minds and our hearts. We are afraid of failure, of persistence, and of self discipline. We are afraid to show our face to people, whom we had proudly declared that we would be doing a gig or other.

That was insecurity is a part of human psychology. There are times we want to quit , but just because we are afraid about the **people** we don’t strive to make things right, and give it all that we CAN..

Sometimes I get up early in the morning, and feel that I am running out of ideas, may be I am skeptical of doing, or just that I feel that what I think is not worth sharing, but heyy..”I never said what I think or do, will be valuable to YOU..may be you know it already or may be I am adding to the clutter, you need to sort..” **

DO..

DO..

But deep down I have a satisfying feeling…I did, and that is enough..

**adapted from .. Elizabeth Gilbert’s Thoughts on writing,

<< I have a friend who’s an Italian filmmaker of great artistic sensibility. After years of struggling to get his films made, he sent an anguished letter to his hero, the brilliant (and perhaps half-insane) German filmmaker Werner Herzog. My friend complained about how difficult it is these days to be an independent filmmaker, how hard it is to find government arts grants, how the audiences have all been ruined by Hollywood and how the world has lost its taste…etc, etc. Herzog wrote back a personal letter to my friend that essentially ran along these lines: “.Quit your complaining. It’s not the world’s fault that you wanted to be an artist. It’s not the world’s job to enjoy the films you make, and it’s certainly not the world’s obligation to pay for your dreams. Nobody wants to hear it Steal a camera if you have to, but stop whining and get back to work.” I repeat those words back to myself whenever I start to feel resentful, entitled, competitive or unappreciated with regard to my writing: “

It’s not the world’s fault that you want to be an artist…now get back to work.” Always, at the end of the day, the important thing is only and always that: Get back to work. This is a path for the courageous and the faithful. You must find another reason to work, other than the desire for success or recognition. It must come from another place.

Every morning in Africa, a deer wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest deer, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or gazelle – when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.

How Aam is Aam Aadmi aka how common is the common man?

The other day at Triibes, I hit a discussion with Becky Blanton, about helping the homeless. And as with every body, not for once did she mention, “The homeless need us, hand out more blankets”.

That was something that ignited my think tank !

Why is it that we deter from looking past the basic physiological needs of food and shelter?

As you see in the hierarchal pyramid in the image below, love, belonging, esteem and self actualization comes up much later.

   Maslow's Hierarchy

Maslow’s Hierarchy

But what Maslow conceived is often misconstrued. We tend to believe that what a common man needs is all about the basic food and shelter needs.

In his thesis, Maslow quotes,”It is quite true that man lives by bread alone — when there is no bread. But what happens to man’s desires when there is plenty of bread and when his belly is chronically filled?

At once other (and ‘higher’) needs emerge and these, rather than physiological hungers, dominate the organism. And when these in turn are satisfied, again new (and still ‘higher’) needs emerge and so on. This is what we mean by saying that the basic human needs are organized into a hierarchy of relative prepotency. ”

This is to say the emergence of more important social goals and a shift in focus away from physiological needs.

Alas, the story of the human race is the story of men and women selling themselves short.

We tend to overshadow what’s still ahead of us, and bask in the sunshine of our previous successful gigs.

Come’on, the best is still ahead of you, and that’s why , you are not a dog, or a rat. YOU are a human being! And you are blessed, just that you do not know about it!

A musician must make music, an artist must paint, a poet must write, if he is to be ultimately at peace with himself. What a man can be, he must be.

   ~Abraham Maslow

Noted for his conceptualization of a “hierarchy of human needs” in the paper “A theory of human Motivation “, the American psychologist. Abraham H. Maslow stresses that there is a ladder in which these needs are positioned and without the lower ones being met, the ones at the higher level are not only impossible to meet/satisfy, but also flagrantly abuses the ones at the bottom of the ladder.

Hey there, would be nice to have you around !
