I read this interesting post by Perry Belcher. Like all good ways to market in these tough times, It sets out to tell a complete story, So when You say “The kids each free ..” So? You don’t have to do the dishes tonight..

Disk Brakes SO You Can Stop Quickly and Protect Your Family.

Smells Great SO ,So She Won’t Be Able To Keep Her Hands Off You.

Marketing is about setting out with a message that people want to hear as end consumers of the product, so it is more likely that if you tell them a story they already know, they will buzz off , and why shouldn’t they ?

Everyone has a limited amount of time, and by deciding to give it to paying Attention to you < Permission Marketing>, they are giving you a privilege. More likely if you cannot add value, they will sure dangle between the channels knowing what NOT to see. And your product is sure doomed indiscoverable even after you have spent loads on promoting it.

Be different, be heard, and use the privilege of being heard judiciously creating an aha customer experience on every occasion.

So, when you are narrating a story, are you being just, and completing it ? or are you tweaking it believing that people just don’t care. Lucikly, they do, at least here at Triiibes.

“Everybody Can be great. Because everybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and your verb agree to serve. You don’t have to know about Plato and Aristole to serve. You don’t have to know Einsteins theory of relativity to serve. You don’t have to know the second theory of thermodynamics to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. a soul generated by love.”

 Dr Martin Luther King.

They say if “to sell you don’t have to tell, but to sell well , you have to tell well..”  That prompts me into thinking, after all everything we do is about telling a story .

In his post Is marketing evilSeth lays a fundamental proposition on Marketing .

“Marketing is beautiful when it persuades people to get a polio vaccine or wash their hands before doing surgery. Marketing is powerful when it sells a product to someone who discovers more joy or more productivity because he bought it. Marketing is magic when it elects someone who changes the community for the better.”

Think of it, if you can tell a story that persuade people to “DO” (Lead India Campaign) or ask “India” to learn to teach the disadvantaged children in the rural and under funded schools (Teach India)

Or, bring that sense of Unity through they Free hugs or “Mile Sur Mera Tumhara” . I think its all about how we tell the story, how compelling can it get .

Telling stories that change, inspire, and persuade people into believing and seeing that creative common vision is where our future is, for it is only when we take  collective stand ,that the hopes and dreams  morph into reality , for when we start to work, no destination however distant seems unachievable.

The future for something to believe in , and persist is infinite. Stick on !

There are six balls in an over, and you cant hit everyone one for a six. So, don’t throw your wicket away. So, don’t throw your wicket away. As long as you score more sixers than others, you’re alright.’   Piyush Pandey

When you were born, like a seed you were vulnerable, but you survived, the parch heat, humidity, the exposure and rough weather. From a seed you grew on to acquire ROOTS, and moved on to stems, branches, twigs, leaves, and finally flowers and fruit .

And you grew up to be a tree, the leaves of which were conditioned by education, and the people around, by persistence, self discipline, industry, willingness to accept as life came along.

Each day of conditioning made you strong, and audacious. Each of these days you stood for HOPE, trading time for who you can be, you invested in educating yourself, and each of these days you fought with yourself not to settle for less.

But then the autumn came along, and you backed out, shedding leaves, surrendering to what is external and **beyond you**

Alas, but the story of human race is a story of innumerable human being who sell themselves short each day, for each day in their hearts and mind the self doubt plugs and eats up into who they can or could be, if only they persisted.

The point now is, how NAKED are you, if you are growing your leaves trust the nature to get back the spring to you. If you are in spring already, trust to see the autumn soon, aware that anything persistent and permanent is change.

NAMEPLATES are boring !

You don’t want to be living all your life with the nameplate, that’s not what defines you,you are your definition, yours alone, and if the tree you are building stands for giving, you define others around you, andonly  then in true sense have you existed and made a difference.

Today pledge to give something, anything your time, your attention, your vision, or as little as a thought .You will then see the other naked trees around you building on, and blooming in a message that reverberates around the universe “Giving and building on..”

Do what you want to do ..And go where you’re going to
Think for yourself ..  ‘Cause I won’t be there with you.

I was just reading  Becky’s  post on Finishing alone.

At the prime, it sends out the message loud and clear, “Don’t play to win, instead to finish..”

Human brain is remarkable in that way,for it can recall the precise moment something relevant happened, and it triggers you back like it was a time machine.

I just remembered a race in school where a close friend had participated. It was a big ground, and we had to take 10 turns and after 6 rounds my friend lost her breath, then.. A teacher walked up to the middle of the field, and ran along with her(actually they walked the rest 4 rounds together), and my friend was given a special price. Back then, I was a little jealous, as kids of our age are! But now, I know that it is important to finish what you start, or you had never started in the first place..

Reading through, I went to introspect my feelings, and what was I up to lately.

I think we don’t get what we want, because each of these days, we quit in our minds and our hearts. We are afraid of failure, of persistence, and of self discipline. We are afraid to show our face to people, whom we had proudly declared that we would be doing a gig or other.

That was insecurity is a part of human psychology. There are times we want to quit , but just because we are afraid about the **people** we don’t strive to make things right, and give it all that we CAN..

Sometimes I get up early in the morning, and feel that I am running out of ideas, may be I am skeptical of doing, or just that I feel that what I think is not worth sharing, but heyy..”I never said what I think or do, will be valuable to YOU..may be you know it already or may be I am adding to the clutter, you need to sort..” **

But deep down I have a satisfying feeling…I did, and that is enough..

**adapted from .. Elizabeth Gilbert’s Thoughts on writing,

<< I have a friend who’s an Italian filmmaker of great artistic sensibility. After years of struggling to get his films made, he sent an anguished letter to his hero, the brilliant (and perhaps half-insane) German filmmaker Werner Herzog. My friend complained about how difficult it is these days to be an independent filmmaker, how hard it is to find government arts grants, how the audiences have all been ruined by Hollywood and how the world has lost its taste…etc, etc. Herzog wrote back a personal letter to my friend that essentially ran along these lines: “.Quit your complaining. It’s not the world’s fault that you wanted to be an artist. It’s not the world’s job to enjoy the films you make, and it’s certainly not the world’s obligation to pay for your dreams. Nobody wants to hear it Steal a camera if you have to, but stop whining and get back to work.” I repeat those words back to myself whenever I start to feel resentful, entitled, competitive or unappreciated with regard to my writing: “

It’s not the world’s fault that you want to be an artist…now get back to work.” Always, at the end of the day, the important thing is only and always that: Get back to work. This is a path for the courageous and the faithful. You must find another reason to work, other than the desire for success or recognition. It must come from another place.

Every morning in Africa, a deer wakes up. It knows it must outrun the fastest lion or it will be eaten. Every morning in Africa, a lion wakes up. It knows it must run faster than the slowest deer, or it will starve. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a lion or gazelle – when the sun comes up, you’d better be running.

There is an interesting story in Chinese manuscript, that the Pig roast was accidentally discovered by people who for ages together had Raw pig meat.

The story as it happens was about a swine -herd, Ho-ti,who was out one day to collect mast for his hogs. While he was away his eldest son, Bo-bo , a great lubberly boy, who being fond of playing with fire, let some sparks escape into a bundle of straw, which kindling quickly, spread the conflagration over every part of their poor mansion, till it was reduced to ashes. Together with the cottage, nine pigs perished.

While he was thinking what he should say to his father, and wringing his hands over the smoking remnants of one of those untimely sufferers, an odour assailed his nostrils, unlike any scent which he had before experienced. Whilst this he burnt his finger and quickly put it in his mouth for a some soothing (as we do it till date!),and what he tasted was so delicious; that he surrendered himself to the pleasure.

When his father came, (of course he was furious!) he asked him to have the roasted pig, and aha it was a delight !

So much so that Ho-ti and Bo-bo burnt their house more often to surrender to the delicacy, but at the same keeping it a well guard secret amongst themselves.

The neigbours both surprised and curious of the frequent burn down, reported this, and HO-ti was tried in court. Ultimately, he demonstrated what a delicacy it was to the judje and he was let free.

But soon, the entire city was seen burning, for people would burn their houses to enjoy the Roast pig! Funny it may sound, but it is true ..

Now that we know the story, the context is “Are we burning our house” to find what is the source of problem , or how can we approach a solution?

In the book , Change Masters  By Rosabeth Moss Kanter, she touches upon various aspects of creativity and innovation .

The  prime being, are we burning down the house and approaching the problem in a round about way ?

Clearly, the Roast Pig problem would sound very trivial now, but back then insurance agents closed down !

Simple as it may sound, know, why you do what you do ,and only then can you do it better .

Here are 10 rules for stifling change from Rosabeth, just though of sharing with you.

I have a belief that all our dreams come true in this life alone, but ,sometimes, long after we have actually forgotten them.

As I cross the street I see young boys wanting to be men, with gelled hair, pierced ears and low waist jeans.

I’m no where close to those ‘oldies’ to exclaim “hamare zamane mei to…aaj kal ke bachhe bhi na…

What I’m talking about is a generation that is enabled like never before, never before have we been so connected, never before have we felt this sense of togetherness, and more so of IDENTITY.

Ever since ages, man has been transcending from I to WE to I, and yet lost in the battle that he is to fight with himself, and the more he is to do.

There are larger questions that he must answer each of these days, questions of identity, power, motive, relativism and above all, of the inherent MEANING .

What is it that means to you, means to me. What is it that ignites you, what is it that you are apssiontely passionate about ?

Sadly, but truly, the answer to this question will never come overnight, never under your bed telling “What should you do with your life..”

So, when they said ignorance is a bliss, they meant it, for the more a human mind knows, the more it seeks, so much so that overwhelmed in the myriad feeling ,everything becomes quite distant to him. Things which, although well in reach are not doable, because there are so many of them.

At the same, never before have we felt the collective HOPE that charges our senses stronger than it does now.

There is this principle of reinforcement which states “reinforcement occurs when an event following a response causes an increase in the probability of that response occurring in the futurei.e. arousal level is proportional to rate of reinforcement.

To which I meekly answer..

Choose a path, and keep going, and you will get there !

And inspiration, what’s that? And by the way, where are you trying to find it ,for it is already there, you just need to condition it.

How ? Stay tuned !

Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking.

Reading about the silk route years after I left the school and that history book, triggered myriad feelings in me.

So what was it about the silk route? Was it the trade of luxuries such as silk, satins, musk, rubies, diamonds, pearls, and rhubarb, while simultaneously serving as a conduit for the spread of knowledge, ideas, cultures, and diseases between different parts of the world in China, India, Asia Minor and the Mediterranean ?

Or was it something else all together?

To me the silk route symbolizes a story, and more than that the deep down human DESIRE of reaching out and connecting with its counterparts in different parts of the globe.

What is it, when a naïve user in a vastly unknown district of a developing country or a third world country sits at his terminal and reads about what’s happening round him?

Or what is when people come together, and form a group and are bonded by a social cause, a vision they share together and one they live on, breathe on, till it becomes a reality.

So, the so-called “Silk Routes” were not only conduits for silk, but also for many other products. They were very important paths for cultural and technological transmission by linking traders, merchants, pilgrims, monks, missionaries, soldiers, nomads and urban dwellers from China to the Mediterranean Sea for thousands of years.

A Tribe is about creating value, trust and earning the respect from other members of the community. It is about CONNECTING. It is about facilitating a conversation and collaborating, and a lot more than that.

According to Seth, the market for something to believe in, is infinite !

As I type this technologies such as Twitter, Blogging, Facebook, Triiibes is forever changing the way we communicate and connect and generate intangible value out of the relationship we carve with otherwise strangers.

And once we carve theses relationships, the bonding that arises, will not only facilitate an immense amount of learning ,but also add meaning to our survival , for we don’t and cannot exist in isolation, and to progress as a race together, we must not only add value to our own assets of information base, but also enrich the lives of those around us, by sharing what we learn .

I believe in intuition and inspiration. Imagination is more important than knowledge. For knowledge is limited, whereas imagination embraces the entire world, stimulating progress, giving birth to evolution. It is, strictly speaking, a real factor in scientific research.
